Project Data Privacy| Ethnic Minorities| Online & in-person (if selected)

The research is being conducted by Thinks Insight & Strategy, an independent market research company, on behalf of the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

We are looking to speak to members of the public who come from an ethnic minority background to talk to them about their understanding of data privacy and their information rights, so the ICO can effectively support them with this. The client is looking for people who are either 1,2,3 4th generation Asian or African, or those whose English is NOT their first language.

• Stage 1 – The research would consist of an online pre-task.  This would be a diary exercise spanning 8 days in total, beginning on October 2, 2025, followed by a short 15–20-minute telephone interview/video call at a date and time convenient for you.   paid either by the incentive payment platform Ayda or by bank transfer.  All to take part in an 8-day diary task (10 mins completion time per day), followed by a short 15–20-minute telephone interview/video call
• Stage 2 – After this initial phase, some participants will then be selected by the client to take part in an additional filmed interview at a time that suits you in November 2025. 

This would be conducted in your home and last approximately 3-4 hours. Participants would be allowed to take breaks as needed. This interview would be filmed, and the footage would be used to help bring the research to life. It would be used internally by the client for research purposes only, unless you give additional consent for external use at meetings and conferences, too.

Participants who take part in the in-home interview would receive a further £150 paid via direct bank transfer.

Group 2 – English as a second language

To thank you for your time, you would receive £150 paid via an independent incentive payment platform, Ayda – (CASH in your Bank Account)  payment platform, so no need to share Bank details.

Everyone taking part in the research will come from different backgrounds and will have a range of different experiences to talk about, so don’t worry, there are no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ answers to the questions I am about to ask you.

PLEASE NOTE: All to be truthful with the information that is given

• Turning up for the interview/focus group on time
• If you have lied to qualify, YOU WILL NOT BE PAID ANY INCENTIVE, and YOUR RECRUITER WILL NOT BE PAID THEIR RECRUITMENT FEE
• Any wifi issues which affect the interview may result in you receiving a reduced or no incentive
• Using a device which has not been allowed will result in a reduced or no incentive. Conducting your interview from your car will result in no incentive
